Chituru’s Palm Project

Global warming sounded like an empty threat until Timi woke up at night to pee only to meet his house submerged in water. He frantically woke up his wife and four toddlers and they began what will be the coldest night of their lifetime. All he prayed for was to find a place where his children will lay their heads and be safe.

On his way out, he met Patience weeping profusely. “What happened?” Timi asked

“My two children are lifeless” she replied. “How do I forgive myself for being so careless?” she asked. Was she really careless?

Chituru disagrees.

As a physician who has donated her heart, resources, and time to humanity and humanitarian projects, she knew exactly how vulnerable human beings are. She understood the pain and woes a mother like Patience felt, and the hopelessness in the eyes of Timi. She didn’t stop at feeling bad but went all out to knock on the doors and windows of all her admirers, friends, colleagues, neighbours, and relatives to bring all they can afford so that Timi can cater for his children, and Patience will find comfort and hope in her gloomy moments. This became her birthday project, to raise ₦1,000,000 as a seed
of love and hope.

What was her inspiration? A natural disaster is a thief that visits when no one expects it.
Anyone can be a victim, and there’s little one can do about it.
The questions in her heart were, “Will I be alive and fail these people who are like me?”
“ What can I do to give hope to children and families who are stranded at this time?

She sold off her precious artworks and donated part of her income. Her compassion, commitment and sacrifice motivated her associates, friends, and relatives to thumbprint to her vision. On 28th November 2022, Chituru remitted ₦607,000 to Showing Love to the Slums Initiative so that Patience and Timi will find hope against all their losses and comfort in their trauma.

While flood raped many homes leaving them with nothing, God sent Chituru—which coincidentally means God conceives—to bring healing, hope, and happiness to those living in Biseni, Okordia, Igbogene, Sampou, Agudama communities, and birth hope in the heart of many families.

Love is all we can give, love is all we have. With two hands, Chituru fetched water for the thirsty and a meal for the hungry. The love in your heart will change the sad experience of Ekong or Theresa during the flood.

Join Chituru as we show love to the vulnerable, one community at a time.
